A structural condition assessment was completed in 2019 showing significant concerns with regard to the structure and roof. The first project consisted of repairs to mitigate roof leaks. Repairs were initiated to the main roof in November 2020 thanks to generous community-minded donors.
Initial cleanout took place in March 2021. Two roll-off dumpsters were filled with water-damaged materials. Additional repairs to the high roof in the back of the building above the stage were completed in November 2021, thanks again to generous donors.
In 2024 a structural engineer was engaged to create repair drawings for the exterior of the building. In November 2024 work began to repair the exterior brick. The extensive exterior work was funded with State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act. This work was completed in September 2025.
The next step will be to address a drainage issue found on the north foundation wall. Corrective work is required to ensure the interior remains dry. This work will be coordinated with a contractor already engaged with the City of Albany to ensure the issue is addressed efficiently and cost-effectively.
Interior work is currently underway. This spring, a board member conducted exploratory demolition work to help us better understand the building's condition. A structural engineer conducted a thorough inspection of the interior in June 2026, and we are currently awaiting his report to guide our next steps.
